JEWELS THAT DESERVE THEIR NAME

What fascinated us about the Ambani wedding

Although hard to beat in terms of effort and splendor, the jewelry was a good example of individuality that anyone can adapt

Mega likeable

There is hardly anyone who has not taken note of the Ambani-Merchant wedding. The budget for the wedding, which began months ago with various celebrations for which the town of Portofino was closed to the wedding party and a luxury cruise line from Italy to France was organized before the actual festivities began, is estimated at around 156 million US dollars(BBC).

We congratulate the wedding couple and all those who organized this wedding so perfectly across continents, with packed calendars and the highest expectations.

Two impressions remain: The naturalness and the stunning charm of the hosts, who had organized everything perfectly, including a 10-page dress code and replicas of temples, only to discover that the majority of guests thought they had to capture the best moments with their own smartphones, even though it was clear that the best photographers and videographers in the country had been hired.

Apart from the merest hint of an arched eyebrow, the hosts let on that Kim Kardashian must have mistaken the dress code of traditional festive Indian clothing for a bikini contest by the pool of the hotel where the annual congress of plastic surgeons is held.

The other impression: jewels that send messages.

Brooches with symbolic power

Madeleine Albright will have had a great time in heaven: Fantastic brooches were a highlight at this wedding reception. Precious brooches could be admired on the groom’s chest, on his father and on many other male guests.

Many of the brooches were intended to send messages: Size: The groom wore a brooch with an emerald, which is rare in this size (720 carats) and with its beautiful coloring. Jewelry experts wondered how it was possible for a brooch of this weight to hold onto the fabric of the jacket without obviously putting too much strain on it.

Personal interests: A panther was enthroned on the emerald, no doubt also as a sign of his love of animals, made by Heeramaneck & Son, an established jeweler from Mumbai for centuries.

The groom’s father, like many others, also chose a brooch made of yellow and white diamonds with the figure of an elephant.

Bollywood Sharuk Khan opted for an antique brooch from the Victorian era in England. It couldn’t be more symbolic.

The decisive factor is not the dizzying number of carats that many of these brooches had – they all looked outstanding and dressed their wearers in an individual way.

More courage to wear a brooch – it is not necessary to commission the best jeweler in the country to the value of a small condominium. Since few have recognized the trend yet, you can find fantastic brooches in antique shops or borrow them from your family.

Tradition with radiance

Many other pieces of jewelry seen during the numerous wedding celebrations, be it the brooch on the groom’s turban, the jewelry of the bride and many female wedding guests were modern interpretations of very traditional forms of jewelry as once worn by maharajas and maharanis or actually inherited jewelry.

That made these pieces of jewelry interesting. The price alone would be uninteresting, because it is relatively clear that the family of Asia’s richest man does not need to save money here, but can hire jewelers without hesitation to search for exceptional stones for years and have them presented in exceptional settings.

This support also ensures that craftsmanship and luxury are maintained at a high level.

We were particularly pleased about this

The courage of many of the bride and groom’s family members to rehearse choreographies and perform them on stage, knowing full well that the pictures of the dances would go around the world. Many of them showed that the dance floor is not their natural territory. That’s what made the performances so appealing.

We were also impressed by the appreciation of unusual buttons. Many gentlemen had fantastic buttons to admire. They were often made from precious stones.

It would be nice if the last remaining button stores didn’t have to give up, but could once again find buyers who value unusual buttons on their jackets.

Then the wedding budget would have been worth it for the Ambanis.
