THE CORONATION OF KING CHARLES III

Plan your private royal pleasure now

The opportunity to experience a royal coronation doesn’t come along every day. Celebrate with us.

Saturday, May 6, 2023

All royalists have marked this day in their calendars. The coronation will take place on May 6, 2023. of King Charles III in Westminster Abbey in London.

The exact time has not yet been published, but the coronation of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, which took place at 12.15 p.m., could be a good indication.

Celebrate with us

The coronation, at which Charles III is anointed with oil and takes the oath of allegiance, is one of England’s oldest rituals. King Charles III himself is often way ahead of many trends in his life.

Leave your usual routine of errands for a Saturday and invite friends over. Celebrate with those who share your love of England and perfect staging in front of the TV screen.

In view of current world politics, in which the warring despots of China and Russia are moving even closer together, King Charles III deserved a relaxed Saturday of attention.

The stylish invitation

Buckingham Palace makes it easy for you to design a stylish invitation. There’s no need to reach for the watercolors in this case.

You can download the motif of the royal coronation from the Buckingham Palace homepage. It has been released for all uses in connection with the coronation – expressly also for commercial use and advertising.

This is highly unusual, as design is rightly strictly protected in all other cases.

The emblem for the royal coronation was designed by none other than Sir Jony Ives, the English designer who has shaped the minimalist design of Apple products for decades.

Should you have any questions regarding the use of the Coronation Enblem, please do not hesitate to contact the Lord Chamberlain’s Office, Buckingham Palace, London SW1A 1AA.

The emblem is the program

The official emblem of the royal coronation on May 6, 2023 combines the four plants that represent the parts of the United Kingdom of England:

The Rose of England

The thistle of Scotland

The Daffodil Wales

The cloverleaf of Northern Ireland

They entwine and form the St. Edward’s Crown, which will be used for the king’s coronation. It was made in 1661 for the coronation of Charles II by the royal goldsmith of the time. He followed a historical model, as the previous crown had been melted down.

444 sapphires, emeralds, rubies and diamonds adorn the St. Edward’s Crown. Camilla, The Queen Consort, who will be crowned at the same time on May 6, 2023, will relinquish the famous crown, which contains the Koh-I-Noor diamond that was once given to Queen Victoria but has since been reclaimed by the Indian government as national property.

An old crown from Queen Mary is recycled for Camilla.

GloriousMe has already reported that King Charles III appreciates good quality clothing and shoes and has them refurbished until there is really no other way.

Ecology at the heart of our business

The plants in King Charles III’s emblem are not a reference to the current zeitgeist.

The current King of England has been passionate about organic farming for more than 40 years and Duchy Home Farm, the farm on his Highgrove estate in Gloucestershire, was set up in 1986.

Hand on heart: Did you ever look out for organic products when shopping on Saturday in 1986?

We have been filling our shopping baskets in England with Duchy Estate jams and oat cookies for many years, but mainly because they are by far the tastiest products you can enjoy in these categories.

King Charles III has shown foresight with his commitment to organic farming. The yields from the Duchy Estate, a landholding covering 52,450 hectares in 20 regions of England and Wales, are substantial.

Edward III had the idea that the first-born male descendants and thus the future regents should have an independent income and founded the Duchy of Cornwall, which is currently owned by Prince William and whose income is used to fund private and charitable ventures.

If you are interested in figures: Here you can find the annual report of the Duchy of Cornwall.

If you would rather see beautiful English landscapes and learn more about the subject close to King Charles III’s heart, we recommend the documentary “The Farmer and His Prince (2013)“.

In this documentary, the steward of the Duchy of Cornwall, David Wilson, talks with British understatement and humor about his boss King Charles III and his conviction of the benefits of organic farming for people and nature.

British indulgence

When inviting your friends to watch the coronation together on Saturday, May 6, 2023, there should be no shortage of British delights.

Even if we are a fan of Rishi Sunak, in this case we will not follow the official recommendations of HM Government for culinary delights on Coronation Day and the corresponding recipes of ambitious young English chefs: Coronation Aubergine, Rack of Lamb and Strawberry and Ginger Trifle.

In order to watch the perfect staging of the coronation from the procession to Westminster Abbey, the coronation ceremony, the procession back to Buckingham Palace and the waving of the royal family from the balcony of Buckingham Palace, no one should be standing in the kitchen, but everyone should sit relaxed in front of the TV screen to enjoy the live broadcast of the BBC with its competent commentators.

Our recommendation

Gin & tonic to get you in the mood and the best English potato chips you can find in your local shop.

Attentive hosts can serve a gin whose herbs come from the garden of King Charles III. Buckingham Palace Gin is available from Fortnum & Mason. However, it is only available in the UK, Germany, Australia and New Zealand.

A monarch always thinks in terms of centuries and is not fazed by short-term irritations such as Brexit. As head of the Commonwealth, the Duchy of Cornwall’s garden store is therefore offering another gin for worldwide delivery.

Finger food and sandwiches are ideal if you don’t want to miss a moment of the broadcast. You can find ideas in our article on high tea.

After the climax of the coronation, as soon as the king has been anointed with the blessed oil from Israel and the royal procession moves towards Buckingham Palace, we recommend champagne and fresh strawberries with cream.

God save the King

The music for the coronation will be an event in itself. King Charles III has selected all twelve pieces of music that will be played at his coronation ceremony himself or commissioned them as new compositions.

Georg-Friedrich Händel’s “Zadok the Priest” and the anthem God save the King are of course firmly planned.

In addition, King Charles III has commissioned Andrew Llyoyd Webber to compose a coronation anthem, has asked the Scottish composer Patrick Doyle to write a coronation march and would like to see Greek Orthodox music integrated into the ceremony in honor of his father.

Sir Antonio Pappano, Music Director of the Royal Opera House, London (Patron King Charles III) will be conducting. Opera stars such as Sir Bryn Terfel and Pretty Yende will perform as soloists and the choral voices of the Choir of Westminster Abbey and The Choir of His Majesty’s Chapel Royal will once again sound extraordinarily beautiful at this event.

Bunting and Presents

The whole of England is called upon to celebrate a street party with acquaintances, friends and neighbors on the day after the coronation. England is great at celebrating with neighbors. We have experienced many a street party in London where bunting, the decoration with bunting, is a must.

Of course, your guests should not leave your coronation celebration without a souvenir gift. You can have the coronation emblem printed on a mug and give it to your guests as a memento of the hours spent together in front of the screen.

Here you have the choice of using the coronation motif in the colors of the Union Jack, red and blue, or in pastel colors.

The next day, your guests can enjoy a strong cup of tea from the Coronation Mug while watching the concert at Windsor Castle, which will be broadcast live from Windsor Castle on Sunday thanks to the BBC.

The countdown is on

Planning for the coronation of Charles III as King began many years ago. At the request of King Charles III, it will be smaller (2,000 instead of 8,000 invited guests), more modern, more inclusive and simpler compared to his mother’s coronation on June 2, 1953.

Today is March 23, 2023, and your planning for a private royal pleasure can begin: Let the celebrations commence.
