CHAMPAGNE AND JUNK FOOD

Fruity and Greasy

An idea for a relaxing evening when things get especially hectic

Champagne pairs perfectly with simple meals

The acidity and fruitiness of many champagnes pair well with pizza, burgers, or even currywurst. The salt, fat, and protein that characterize these dishes go exceptionally well with champagne.

Of course, it’s easier to appreciate the subtle flavors of a good champagne on its own or with dishes that are less spicy or salty.

Chefs and other connoisseurs of fine dining, however, love the combination of fast food and champagne when they want to relax.

High and Low

Just like in fashion, contrast is what makes an outfit interesting. In fashion, a monochromatic look—no matter how expensive the brand—is usually unimaginative. Combining different materials and brands makes an outfit exciting and shows creativity.

Oysters and champagne go together wonderfully—and so do champagne and Mexican tacos. Just because you choose a delicious and affordable meal, like the kind you find at street food stalls, doesn’t mean you have to skimp on the drink. On the contrary: the great thing about champagne is that you wake up with a clear head the next day.

With or without bubbles

Champagne and fast food are the perfect pairing for a relaxing evening at home. In restaurants, however, it’s rather rare to see fish and chips served with champagne.

What’s more, if you order champagne at a restaurant, you should insist on perfect effervescence. The steep prices charged in this country for a “coup de champagne” suggest that the champagne should be sparkling fresh in the glass, not sitting there flat.

Champagne should always be poured from the bottle into the glass in front of the guest. This is the only way to be sure you’re actually drinking the champagne you ordered.

At home, you can also enjoy champagne that was opened the day before or a few days earlier. Even if it’s tightly sealed, it won’t sparkle as vigorously as it does immediately after the bottle is opened.

Whether enjoyed on its own or paired with pizza, toast with grilled bacon, or a hearty lentil soup, champagne tastes great even without its bubbles.

No rush, no stress

Cooking an elaborate meal can be a lot of fun, but it can also be very stressful. Nothing beats a relaxed host or hostess.

Delicious french fries with Maldon salt and champagne on the side are quick and easy to make. Enjoy this combination of fast food and champagne to your heart’s content.

The only thing you shouldn’t compromise on is the glassware. Currywurst tastes just as good out of a cardboard box, but champagne calls for an elegant flute.
