HOW MANY CLOSETS DO YOU STILL NEED?

Dress code post pandemic

Is there still a difference between casual and business wear?

Is one closet enough instead of two?

Before the pandemic, there were often two closets or two relatively strictly separate sections in them: the part where the clothes that were classified as business attire in pre-pandemic times hang: Suits, jackets, suits, trouser suits, ties, shirts, blouses, etc. And the part where the casual leisure wear was to be found.

Does this division still make sense or is it outdated?

Admittedly, this is a topic that only affects some of our readers, as uniforms are mandatory in many professions. Be it for safety reasons, to protect yourself and others or to be clearly and quickly identified.

The corporate identity of many organizations is also reflected in their uniforms – airlines, but not only airlines, are a good example of how corporate identity is also expressed through clothing.

Work clothes? Casual wear? Or all one?

Whether voluntarily or involuntarily – for many, the morning commute increasingly leads to the company office and not just the home office next door.

The question remains, not only for the clothing industry, whether the sometimes ultra-casual style of working from home will continue after the pandemic in the medium and long term.

If workwear and leisurewear are identical, this can save a lot of money and protect the environment if you don’t invest the budget you used to invest in business clothing in an upgrade of your leisurewear. Because even there the scale is open at the top.

Mark Zuckerberg is the best example of how to get by with just a gray T-shirt and hoodie. The three-piece suit he wore to the US Senate hearing looked like it came straight from the menswear store recommended to him by his lawyers and advisors. We wouldn’t have been surprised to see another price tag on it.

The most important trends

Things are becoming more formal again

For a long time, jackets and suits were rarely seen outside of industries whose more conservative clientele expected very formal attire, but they are now being seen more frequently in the office again. Sometimes with a quietly mumbled excuse that you have an important meeting today.

Tie manufacturers have a hard time

They still exist: men who wear ties. They are usually among those who have a pronounced sense of style, choose their ties with great care and look stunning with them.

You wear the tie voluntarily, not because you want to comply with an internal company dress code. And you have great self-confidence. It would be far easier to swim with the masses of tie-less colleagues and superiors.

Fabric quality counts

If there are fewer items of clothing, which is to be welcomed in terms of the environment, the quality of each piece counts even more. Each of these few items of clothing should stay in top shape for a long time.

A simple pair of trousers or a simple skirt that can be perfectly combined are distinguished by their quality. You can recognize good wool fabrics. 400 million tons of plastic waste worldwide (according to a UBS report) is undoubtedly far too much.

Accessories are becoming more important

The increasing trend of wearing clothing that would previously have been categorized as casual wear in a business environment is equalizing many things. If you look around on the train, at the airport or on the suburban train, you see a lot of similar, almost interchangeable items of clothing.

In addition to fabric quality, accessories are becoming increasingly important to stand out.

The GloriousMe clothing strategy

The two wardrobe items, which used to be strictly separate, are now being combined to a greater extent. More formal pieces with pieces that are less formal. For example, a classic, elegant black trouser suit with sneakers.

High fabric quality is particularly important for basics that are intended to provide years of good service.

Purely casual clothing in a business environment would not be an option for us. For one thing, you should always dress for the position you are aiming for next, and for another, business attire that is more formal is also an expression of respect for the job and the people you meet during the day.

What seems funny on the beach can also be interpreted in everyday working life (with the exception of a few industries) as a complete lack of interest in the job

The rigid armor of earlier business attire has loosened and the combination options have become more diverse. But there is a lot to be said for maintaining a certain dividing line in the closet.

Last but not least, there’s nothing better in the evening than a change of clothes.

Change of clothes

Who doesn’t know the wonderful feeling of coming home after a hard day and putting on your favorite comfy clothes that feel warm and relaxing.

A pleasant break between work and dinner: also a form of work/life balance.

Conversely, it can also be more festive and elegant for a nice evening. Usually when the calendar says: Something to look forward to.
