THE LONDON ART FAIR FRIEZE

Make a visit to FRIEZE a present for yourself

When the FRIEZE London art fair started over 20 years ago, it was young and bold. It still is to this day and is therefore adored by many

Autumn in the park – even more beautiful with art

There are few things more beautiful than strolling through an autumnal park. Unless, of course, the park is home to world-class sculptures amidst the autumn-colored trees. The FRIEZE art fair takes place every year in tents in Regents Park in London. Right next to the entrance to the fair tents, there is an excellent sculpture exhibition every year.

The fair is now well established, with offshoots in New York, Seoul and Paris, but has not lost its coolness and is a good complement to the more established ART BASEL, which takes place every June.

Art as far as the eye can see

FRIEZE in London is easy to manage in one day if you don’t want to have conversations at every stand and don’t want to visit all the pop-up stands of the trendy London restaurants at the fair.

The art store in your head and heart can then be filled up on two more days in London. Around the date of FRIEZE, all the galleries and some of the museums try to show the best of the best, knowing that important clients, gallery owners and museum people will be in town.

Our recommendations to round off your visit to FRIEZE London 2023:

National Portrait Gallery

This house has always had a very special place in our hearts. We find portraits exciting and the National Portrait Gallery has a fine selection of portraits in a variety of media, from watercolors to oil paintings to photography.

The National Portrait Gallery has been given a new prestigious entrance and has become even more self-assured. Look famous or less famous people straight in the eye as you walk through this special building.

Victoria & Albert Museum

Just one exhibition or one section of the Victoria & Albert Museum is enough, as they are all of a high standard. If the October weather is merciful, you can enjoy a cup of tea in the wonderful courtyard afterwards; if it’s pouring with rain, you can enjoy tea and scones in one of the most beautiful museum cafés in Europe.

Serpentine Gallery

Continue across the city to the Serpentine Gallery. It is located in the wonderful Kensington Park, where every corner is picturesque.

Every year, a renowned architect who has not yet been able to build a design in England is given the opportunity to design a pavilion.

Japan House

From the Serpentine Gallery, you can enjoy Kensington Park on another path and walk to Japan House. While other countries print posters that say: Visit us, Japan has built a Japan House with precision and foresight in a former department store, which skillfully conveys a Japanese feeling with exhibitions, restaurants, tea store, etc., so that you want to book the next flight to Haneda or Narita immediately after your visit.

Capital

There is no question that London is increasingly becoming one of the most luxurious cities in the world. Premium hotel brands such as the Mandarin Oriental, The Peninsula and Raffles are currently investing in additional, even more exclusive hotels, where there are a few token comfort rooms starting at 1000 pounds a night. However, the majority of the hotels consist of expensive suites, which can cost up to 25,000 pounds per night and are essentially aimed at an extremely wealthy clientele from Asia, Arabia and America.

But London can still be enjoyed on a budget, especially in the fall. There are still the pubs that are always loud and cheerful, the small Indian, Vietnamese and Polish restaurants that offer soul food and, if you’re in a hurry, you can always find a Pret-A-Manger branch among all the precious art where the chain manages to offer crayfish with avocado, hot invigorating soups and, in the morning, a wonderfully warm porridge at a very good quality and low price.

The royal parks are excellently maintained and open to everyone.

And if you are looking for something a little more exclusive: Deutsche Bank has been the main sponsor of FRIEZE London since the start of the fair. If you ask your private banker about this, he will be happy to get you a ticket, which you can use to visit the preview of FRIEZE London and recover from the art overload in the VIP lounge.

With so much art on your mind and in your heart, you can go into the year-end spurt with renewed vigor.
