7 reasons for 007 – No time to die

No Time to Die. A reference for Her Majesty’s agent

“Craig is the wrong Bond” was one of the many negative headlines when it was announced in 2005 that Daniel Craig was taking on the role of James Bond for the first time in Casino Royal

Time to go to the movies again

The premiere of the latest James Bond film was postponed a few times due to the pandemic, and premiere fever was limited outside of England, despite massive publicity.

Many cinema fans have perhaps become too accustomed to arthouse cinema on the home couch and Netflix

The latest Bond episode, “No Time to Die,” deserves to go to the movies. The GloriousMe reference to the farewell of Daniel Craig in this role.

7 Reasons for 007 in No Time to Die

Reason 1: British humor

No James Bond film had more humor. With British understatement, often between the lines and always self-deprecating. Our recommendation: The English language version.

Reason 2: Excellent actors

James Bond is the star, but is surrounded by a team of excellent actors.

Ralph Fiennes, who tries not to let his desperation show on the outside and continues to perform his duties bravely and courageously and with a tumbler or two of whiskey in exemplary fashion, even though he has already seen everything you don’t want to know.

The American intern who, after three weeks of training and a quickly tipped martini cocktail, fights her way out of James Bond in the Cuban club with high heels and inimitable comedic talent.

Lashana Lynch, the new generation 007, super cool at her job. However, does not think much of the hierarchy-free work and individualism of her predecessor, but likes to work in an exemplary coordinated manner “by the book” with her boss.

Rami Malek as Lyutsifer Safin, the most sensitive antagonist James Bond has ever had. His plan of DNA-driven destruction is diabolical, his wounded soul that of a child.

While one usually likes to see the villain quickly destroyed, one follows Sami Malek’s minute, differentiated play with fascination.

As well as Naomie Harris, who as Eve Moneypenny smartly and efficiently ensures that England and the rest of the world don’t go under.

A pleasure to meet these so different acting talents in the cinema hall.

Reason 3: Location. Location. Location

The mantra for real estate also applies to the film’s locations: the snowy, icy forests of Norway in winter, as well as the famous Norwegian Atlantic Road, some of whose bridge piers are on tiny islands and which crosses the sea and many small archipelagos in a breathtaking sweep.

The dream sailboat and the house of James Bond in Jamaica. The Cuban club may have been created partly in Jamaica and partly at Pinewood Studios near London, but this is how we like to imagine a club in Havana.

The finale of the film offers spectacular landscapes on the Faroe Islands and the workshop of evil makes the heart of many architecture fans beat faster with concrete design at its finest.

In Puglia, at least in Matera, there will probably be no more low season.

Reason 4: The stunts

Most viewers had long since left the movie theater when the credits listed the names of the stuntmen and women. There must have been an estimated 50.

Get an exclusive, artistic insight into the shooting in the Leica Camera blog‘No time to die – Behind the scenes‘. Here, James Bond is the focus of four photographers, a photography and exhibition project celebrating the 25th official Bond film by James Bond producer Michael G. Wilson.

Reason 5: Hans Zimmer

As a film composer and music producer, the Frankfurt native is now used to being nominated for Oscars and Golden Globe Awards, ever since his score for the film Rain Man.

No Time to Die is his first collaboration for the Bond family. He has delivered a musical masterpiece. Exciting but never gimmicky – and with outstanding musical timing.

Reason 6: Daniel Craig

Although he is initially retired at the beginning of his last film as James Bond, he seems more alert and present than in the films before, in which a certain fatigue for the strenuous service was sometimes noticeable.

In No Time to Die he is strong, clear, reliable, of course always dressed in style, and at the same time mournful and vulnerable. He is disappointed, betrayed and the new porter at the headquarters of the English secret service does not recognize him when he returns to duty in London.

In his interview with Ali Plump, BBC1, late September 2021, the best and liveliest of the many interviews around the premiere, Daniel Craig describes his role in this James Bond episode as follows: “It’s about love, trust, family, about life”.

Daniel Craig didn’t have an easy start in 2006 as Pierce Brosnan’s successor as James Bond. He shaped the role with his unpretentious manner and made it relevant for our times.

No Bond movie is complete without technical gadgets and car chases, with the current film again drawing on the full, but more as a means to an end to get the job done.

In this film, Daniel Craig embodies traditional values such as service to one’s country, a willingness to fight injustice, and putting oneself second. He plays it confidently, with restraint and thus differentiates himself pleasantly from the rest of the action genre.

Reason 7: Louis Armstrong

Why? You will find out at the very end Films.

Don’t wait until “No Time to Die” will be on Arte, Pro7, VOX or RTL in a few years. The film is produced for the big screen.
